Breakfast for dinner?

Don’t worry about cooking dinner tonight and make sure to get in that late-night snack craving. It is that time of year again—Delta Gamma’s annual “Late Cakes.” Late Cakes is a philanthropic event put on by the women of Delta Gamma that benefits the Children’s Miracle Network and UF Shands Hospital. The money raised from this event goes towards hospital equipment, medications, treatments and accommodations for the families affected. When one hears “Delta Gamma” the words “Dance Marathon” are often associated. With 25 Captains, 10 Emerging Leaders, three Assistant Directors and numerous fundraisers, the ladies of Delta Gamma work year-round to spread awareness, and pledge to make a difference in the lives of children by helping to find a cure for cancer and other childhood terminal illnesses.

Anna Fitzpatrick, Moral Captain for DM, explains the impact the organization has had at her time at the University of Florida. “I was in awe at how many college kids could come together and spend a weekend to support children who were fighting for their lives just a few miles away,” said Fitzpatrick.

Late Cakes is being held tonight, February 20, from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Pre-sale tickets are being sold for $5 dollars and will be 7$ at the door. Since the Delta Gamma sorority house is currently under construction, the gentleman of Theta Chi fraternity, Delta Gamma’s Dance Marathon partners for 2019, have selflessly offered their home to be used as the location of the fundraising event.

Late Cakes is a breakfast-style buffet that offers all of the essential breakfast foods. With eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, hash browns and more, people will not only leave the event with a full stomach, but a positive and upbeat attitude.

As women of the Panhellenic community, we are dedicated to raising funds for different philanthropic events, not just our own sorority’s. We truly embrace the saying: “sisters helping sisters.” The women of Delta Gamma encourage other women from the Greek community to come out, enjoy some delicious breakfast foods and spend time with friends to raise money for a cause that is near-and-dear to many people in the Gainesville community. As always, Delta Gamma is for the kids!
