Great music, great people and even greater times were had on Sunday at Kappa Kappa Gamma’s 4th annual philanthropy, Kappa Kickball! This event generously donates all proceeds to Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the largest non-profit children’s literacy organization in the nation. Kappa Kappa Gamma has set out to be a part of the solution to the literary crisis, while having some competitive fun and welcoming all. We also want to congratulate Delta Zeta for taking home the beautiful trophy!
RIF, the true winner of the game, fights the children’s literacy rate in so many ways. It’s easy to take the ability to read for granted—just imagine if it were something you struggled with…scary, right? That’s why RIF strives to spread awareness of children’s literacy within the United States, by providing children with books and creating literacy programs nationwide for the 25 million children that cannot read proficiently. This is also why Kappa Kappa Gamma is so determined to help. There’s nothing better than the gift of education!
As Panhellenic women, we are molded by our philanthropies and giving back to the community. Kappa Kappa Gamma is a shining example of service as they are hands on with RIF and go beyond just raising money. They selflessly volunteer their time at J.J. Finley Elementary School to help the children with homework, read with them and first-handedly see the impact of their charitable initiatives. Their philanthropy chair, Emily, added, “The event itself shapes us too. Everybody comes together to raise money for our biggest cause and all the teams get so excited.” Emily wasn’t joking about the excitement! With teams of ten, there was never a dull moment on the field or in the stands. They even had emcees with megaphones to root on both teams and commentate with spirit.
Far beyond the fun and games, this event has a lasting impact of the chapter women of Kappa Kappa Gamma and all who participate. It’s beautiful to see the Greek community and others collaborate and support each other in community service efforts. Thank you, Kappa Kappa Gamma for setting the standard and thank you to everyone who came out to the event. It was a huge success and a kickin’ time!
